About Povisa Hospital

The history of POVISA Hospital begins in the late sixties , when a group of prestigious doctors in that city conceived theidea of uniting in a single clinical respective. Although society as such was founded in 1969, it was not until March 1973 when the building is inaugurated Hospital in Salamanca street Vigo. In those early years of the Hospital, it is difficult to predict further growth. POVISA is limited, in principle, to essentially offer the specialties of its founders, plus some cancer treatment systems isotope and cobalt bomb that put the Oncology Department at the technological forefront of the time. Subsequently, and following tragic accidents in a shipyard and a cannery, where several workers die, a burn unit would be a pioneer in Galicia is created. The hospital modernizes and grows, and over the years reaches agreements with the Social Marine Institute and the National Health Institute. In 1983 the last major expansion of the building, which ends two years later and brings the number of beds to 700. POVISA starts late 1996 takes control of the Hospital Nosa Terra Group, whose management is characterized to today, by constant technological renovation, consolidation of the concert with the Galician Health Service and continued growth in the private market.

Also, currently Povisa is part of the Hospital Association of Galicia (Ahosgal), and meets the Ethical Commitment and Good Practices promoted by the association and based on transparent management to ensure quality health care.
