The IMQ Clinic Zorrotzaurre represents the natural evolution of Vicente San Sebastián Clinic, which began operating in 1953 as a family business.The driver was the famous surgeon D. Vicente San Sebastián, who in gratitude to their professional and human clinical work was dedicated.
The construction project is carried out under the direction of architect D. Luis Pueyo and at first the clinic has three floors with 50 beds. Then the CVSS was increasing its ability to count in 1979 with 115 rooms.
In 2007, the economic situation of IMQ Group allowed the challenge of raising the level of care to a higher dimension. Framed in the process of conversion of the area of Zorrotzaurre, it was decided to carry out the construction of a new medical center of reference to become the symbol of the transformation process being undertaken by the group.
Bilbao takes years betting on the iconic architecture as a means to improve the relationship of citizens with the environment and project themselvesabroad as a city committed to the development and modernity. For this reason, the project of building the IMQ Zorrotzaurre Clinic born with a high level of aesthetic demands but even more important is the functionality of the infrastructure, as the main objective of the clinic is to maintain and improve the quality of care offered by IMQ .
With these two premises, architects Carlos Ferrater and Alfonso Casares faced the challenge of designing a new building, in addition to being a leader in the horizon of the new Bilbao and integrate perfectly with the restructuring project in the area designed by Zaha Hadid, allows professionals work more eficient way and and patients receive health care of the highest quality.
