The German Hospital Oswaldo Cruz was founded on September 26, 1897 by a group of German-speaking immigrants, led by businessman and honorary consul of Germany at the time, Anton Zerrener. The goal was to establish a health institution that would meet members of the colony and the general population as a form of remuneration for the reception they received when they landed in Brazil.
The land near the Paulista Avenue, yet with rural characteristics, was acquired in 1905, after fundraising campaigns. These features made possible, 17 years later, the actual construction of architectural design Curt Hildebrand, which today characterizes the Hospital complex in the neighborhood of Paradise in São Paulo (SP).
From the beginning, the trajectory of the Hospital was marked by overcoming numerous challenges and the vocation of caring for people - attributes that today are present in their essence.
